OVIEDO, FL - Eagle Bay Cabinet Doors & Drawers, Oviedo, FL, cross trained on the production line as a strategy to improve productivity for the components maker. Another tack is outsourcing dimension milling.
“[Our] in-house rough mill allows us to provide custom capabilities, but outsourcing our standard dimension mill operations has allowed us to run with one less employee in the crew and provided a cost basis for determining job profitability while cutting production time by two days,” says Jason Lockhart, production manager/partner.
Eagle Bay's productivity strategy among many others is included in the 2014 WOOD 100: Strategies for Success, published in September by Woodworking Network. In addition to marketing initiatives, the WOOD 100 also highlighted: go-to-market strategies, business strategies, productivity enhancements, technology integration, product innovations, and customer service strategies.
Since 1990, the WOOD 100 has paid tribute to companies that have not only grown their business, but also to those that have survived, as well as thrived, in today's economy. Participating companies sharing their strategies for success in the WOOD 100 are from all segments of the woodworking industry including: cabinetry, residential and contract furniture, architectural woodworking, closets, wood components, millwork and panel processing.
