Keith Morgan of Bespoke, Larchwood, IA, is a finalist in the 2015 Custom Woodworking Design Portfolio Awards with his project “Contemporary Art Deco Cabinets” entered in the Kitchen/Bath Cabinets category.
Project Description: These cabinets, a contemporary exploration of both the art deco and modern styles, feature the following details: herringbone parquetry on the lower deck and on the ceiling; curved interior corners; perpendicular veneer door edges flanked by walnut piping; teak micro-reeding on both the vertical and horizontal matching of the ziricote exteriors, and Burmese teak interiors.
Project Construction Details: The face frames are 1 1/4" thick and are one piece. The cabinets also feature vertical and horizontal grain matching. There is uplighting on each deck and a secondary face frame to avoid interior to avoid interior lighting filtering through the door reveals. The door frame are 1 1/8" thick and also in one piece.
