Shirley Mazur of Closet Works Inc., Elmhurst, IL, is a finalist in the 2015 Custom Woodworking Design Portfolio Awards with her project “Triple-Play” entered in the Residential Furniture: Built-In category.

Project Description: A Triple-Purpose Built-In, spanning an entire wall in client's Master Bedroom, opposite the bed. Central section is the Media Center, housing the TV, A/V Components & Videos/DVD's in Drawers (which can double as File Drawers); client followed advice of TV mounted on an articulating arm, eliminating a "diorama-effect" that would've occurred, had it been traditionally-mounted on the wall. Left side is wife's Vanity Area, while Right side is husband's Office Area. They mirror each other, but function differently. Visual interest added by staggering flanking sections 6" lower than middle & all are topped with a simple Cleat Crown, complimenting the Shaker-Mission Drawer/Door Face Styles.

Project Construction Details: Is a combination Cam-Lock/Cam-Dowel/Rail/Cleat System. Central section (Media Center) is floor-based, as are the Lower portions of the flanking sections. The flanking Upper portions are suspended on a rail (wall-based). Cleats on the rear walls beneath the Countertop lend additional support. Behind the Glass-inserted Doors, in the Media section, the Backing was set forward 3" & grommets added, to allow management/camouflaging of component cords.

Materials Used: 3/4" Thick Laminate over Wood-Composite Core Material in African Walnut Finish + 1" Thick HPL (High Pressure Laminate) Countertop in matching material color.

Equipment and/or Software Used: Drawings designed in CabinetVision/TPA Software & manufactured on a Felder USA H10 Router at our manufacturing facility in Elmhurst, IL.
