MINNEAPOLIS, MN -- George Vondriska, managing editor of WoodWorkers Guild of America(WWGOA), is holding the second annual Build a Vet a Guitar event at The Wild Earth Woodworking School in Hudson, Wisconsin. Completed instruments will be donated to Guitars For Vets. Guitars For Vets is a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of ailing and injured military veterans by providing them with guitars and music instruction.

Last year’s event drew approximately 100 woodworkers and non-woodworkers to the two day build. WoodWorkers Guild of America supports the event through donations which are used to purchase guitar kits and supplies for the event. WWGOA’s editorial staff also volunteers their time to assist at the event. “The Build Event is an amazing show of community, with people coming together for one common cause,” said Vondriska. “It’s a great way for the woodworking community and people in general to put the healing power of music in the hands of our veterans.” Most volunteers at the event have never met before. In addition to their investment in helping create guitars, many attendees join the impromptu jam sessions. Another example of how music brings people together.

Guitars For Vets has provided over 800 new guitars and 5,000 lessons to our Nation’s Veterans. A total of 20 guitars are scheduled to be built during this year’s two day event on July 15-16, 2011. New this year, volunteers will also be making repairs to donated guitars which need minor repairs in order to be playable.
