Riverstone Cabinet adopts Accoya wood
DALLAS, TX (August 25, 2010) – Accoya wood, the world’s leading high-technology wood, will be featured in an exclusive outdoor furnishing series by Riverstone Cabinet Company. The unique series will feature kitchen cabinetry, planters, benches, tables and more. Accoya wood was selected due to its high performance and ability to withstand extreme weather conditions.

The new Accoya wood series is designed for homeowners looking for the natural beauty of wood without the worry of degradation over the long-term. Accoya wood is made from sustainably-grown sources and offers performance advantages where exposure to the elements is a concern. It comes with a 50 year above-ground and 25 year below-ground warranty.

“We chose Accoya wood because it offers exceptional dimensional stability and durability,” said Kim Galazen, chief financial officer Riverstone Inc. “Now that we’re in production, we’re finding that Accoya wood is easy to work with, lightweight and doesn’t twist, cup, or bow when being machined,” she said. “It is also very easy to coat, which keeps us operating efficiently.”

Manufactured by Accsys Technologies, Accoya wood involves acetylation, which alters the wood’s reaction with water by permanently replacing free hydroxyls within the wood with stable acetyl groups that will not bond with water. Acetyl groups are naturally present in all wood species, which means that nothing toxic is added into the wood. The altered cell structure of the wood makes it unrecognizable to insects as food, as well as increasing its strength and stability.

“Unlike other modified woods, Accoya wood is modified through the core, allowing manufacturers such as Riverstone Inc. to machine the wood without compromising the integrity of the wood,” said Lisa Ayala, sales manager – North America. “Accoya wood has been compared to hardwoods for its machinability, and requires no special tools for crosscutting, ripping, planning, routing or drilling,” Ayala explained.

“Outdoor spaces are an extension of the home and most people who spend a lot of time outdoors would like alternatives to the plastic furniture dilemma,” said Galazen. “Using Accoya wood for our new series is enabling us to offer customers a beautiful long-term, low maintenance solution,” she added.

Accoya wood is available throughout North America through a network of independent distributors. For more information about Accoya wood visit www.accoya.com.
