Herman Miller's Materials program has received a 2010 Green Good Design award from the Chicago Athenaeum and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. Honored for its commitment to the environment and sustainable strategies, the program is a result of collaboration between Herman Miller and Michael McGinn of the Michael McGinn Design Office.
According to McGinn, the program supports Herman Miller's sustainability goals: "We succeeded in reducing the waste of traditional sampling programs, while simultaneously making the materials more accessible and easier to specify. The program is built around an innovative materials browser and sample books that can be recycled in their entirety, becoming raw material for new products and processes."
Marsha Skidmore, Herman Miller's Director of Materials, added, "It's wonderful to be recognized for all the effort and passion we have in reducing our environmental footprint."
The company's Materials program is one of more than 100 projects recognized, from thousands of entries and originating in 46 countries.
