2011 OFFICIAL MEETING
Members of FSM, which stands for “International Woodworking and Furniture Supplier Magazines Association” which was established with the aim of providing actual and healthy information flow between world markets and ensuring professional solidarity among related publications, held their official annual meeting by gathering in Cologne, Germany during the INTERZUM Fair under the sponsorship of Koelnmesse on May 25, 2011.
THE ASSOCIATION REACHED 26 MEMBERS
FSM, which is the first and only publishers’ union in this branch and which was established with the gathering of 13 woodworking and furniture magazines, each of which are published by the most esteemed institutions of their countries, in INTERMOB fair in October 2010, duplicated its number of magazines and reached 26 members within 6 months.
A SHORT BUT BUSY SCHEDULE
Within the frame of the agreement which was effected between the Board of Directors of FSM and Koelnmesse authorities at the beginning of this year, a series of activities directed at FSM were organized during the Intermob fair. Following the “Welcome Reception” provided by Koelnmesse authorities to FSM members on May 24, representatives of magazines participated in the opening party and award ceremony of the fair and in an international press tour the following day.
All the 26 members were present in the annual congress of FSM which was held at noon on May 25, 2011 in Congress Centre North. General coordinator of Ekin Publishing Group Zeki Yücel, who delivered the opening speech of the meeting which lasted for three hours, summarized the distance covered by the association in a short time and emphasized that every publication uniting under their roof will add to the strength of FSM.
THE ASSOCIATION WILL UNDERTAKE INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES
Following the brief introductory speeches of each member publication, items on the agenda were discussed and opinion exchange was made concerning opportunities of cooperation among publications of different countries, relationships with other international foundations and institutions, development of the web page, creation of an international database, application of new members, 2010 financial report and the committees which could be set up.
The focus of the meeting was the idea of organizing a wide-scale international activity which could be organized either by FSM alone or in cooperation with other foundations and institutions and negotiation of the details about this subject. During these negotiations, various subjects ranging from "surface processing" to "decor papers", from "sustainability" to "nanotechnology" were discussed and the idea of carrying out detailed studies about one of them every year was adopted. It was also decided that feasibility study of a one- or two-day event under the title “World Machinery Congress” shall be started for the first thing in the year 2011 and that this activity shall be repeated every year and turned into a conventional event on condition that it is successful.
THE 2012 MEETING IS EXPECTED TO BE HELD IN ITALY
After the meeting, during which an establishment declaration was also signed, FSM members had a group photograph taken and in the evening, they participated in the dinner which was again provided by Koelnmesse for them. The 2012 official congress of FSM, whose members will come together again in various fair activities throughout the year, is expected to be held in Italy during the Xylexpo fair.
