EFI reports new interior design trends

KERNERSVILLE, NC--EFI, a leading design and manufacturing innovator of original and custom glass and aluminum interior products, announces four emerging glass and light interior design trends that are creating new aesthetics and functionality for diverse contemporary interior spaces, including residences, boutique hotels and offices: translucent tiles, etched and painted table tops, soft closing sliding doors and partitions with new patterns for privacy and openness, and LED lighting as the ultimate final touch for creating a visually stunning environment.

“Tremendous advances in glass manufacturing and materials along with European-derived design innovations have created a sea change in the glass industry not seen in decades,” said Kevin Moore, president of EFI. “Resilient, customizable in nearly any shape or size and impervious to a range of environments, new modern glass innovations are beautiful, eco-friendly and reflect the best of contemporary design.”

While traditional tiles typically have been used for bathrooms and backsplashes, new satin finished glass tiles, like Omni Décor’s DecorFlou® offered by EFI, create unique light reflecting surfaces for a natural, textured and diffused look. Using an exclusive process, these glass tiles are smooth as velvet to the touch, long-lasting and durable. “Light reflecting glass tiles take on the look and feel of their interiors from day break to sunset,” added Brent Moore, vice president of EFI. “And, glass tile by its very nature reflects subtle hues of the room, adapting as color schemes change.”

While glass table tops, especially for dining and occasional tables, have been used for years in residential spaces, new innovations, including custom etched glass, painted surfaces and the ability to customize sizes, shapes and thickness, are ideal for commercial spaces. In particular, work surfaces such as office desks and conference tables can be frosted or back painted to eliminate glare, impervious to fingerprints and cleaned with any glass solution or warm water.

“Designer interior doors have become de rigor in contemporary interiors,” commented Brent Moore. Mechanical innovations in contemporary interior doors, including custom glass doors with soft closing options, speak to a very modern open interior. Sliding glass room dividers and other doors featuring new patterns inspired by nature, shapes and linear designs allow light transfer with some opacity for privacy, creating the feel of a larger space.

Finally, EFI’s custom LED lighting shelf lighting—for cabinets, closets and more—is the perfect finishing touch for sleek, elegant residential and commercial spaces, especially those designed with reflective surfaces.

“Today’s decorative architectural glass and lighting applications are the ultimate expressions of a forward-looking design aesthetic,” concluded Brent Moore. “Providing a reprieve from our fast paced world, modern living and working spaces filled with diffused light create a sense of openness and a harmonious environment that reflects the serenity of the natural world.”
