Woodcraft Acquires Japan Woodworker

Parkersburg, WV - Woodcraft Supply, LLC, has purchased Japan Woodworker, a California-based company that sells woodworking equipment and supplies. The 34-year-old retailer will remain a separate company within the Woodcraft organization, with Woodcraft employees continuing to provide catalog and Internet customer service.

Woodcraft President Jody Garrett announced the acquisition on Nov. 16. “Our two companies share many similarities,” he said. “Both of our companies have built strong brands, and we both pride ourselves in providing professional quality woodworking tools and exceptional customer service. The two companies are a good fit, and Woodcraft will continue to give Japan Woodworker customers the quality service provided by the retiring owners, Fred and Sally Damsen.”

Although the one Japan Woodworker retail store, located in Almeda, California, has closed, customers will now be able to purchase Japan Woodworker products at Woodcraft’s 75 retail stores – five of them located in California at Stanton, Sacramento, Dublin, San Carlos, and Ventura.

In a letter to Japan Woodworker customers, posted on the company website in October, former owner Fred Damsen wrote, “Sally and I are now embarking on the next big adventure in our lives: retirement to spend more time with friends and family. I am pleased to announce that Japan Woodworker will remain a strong company in the capable hands of Woodcraft Supply, LLC, a West Virginia-based company that signed a Letter of Intent to acquire Japan Woodworker. I want to sincerely thank you, our loyal customers, for your support over these past 34 years. I know that you will find a good friend in Woodcraft.”
