US Reshoring Expected to Drive Growth in Powder Coating Industry

Montgomery, TX – Through its annual conference, the Powder Coating Institute (PCI) is positioning itself to be the leading resource for powder coating technology. After more than two decades of “reshoring” or “off-shoring” manufacturing production to low-cost labor countries like China, U.S.-based companies are bringing their operations back home – resulting in the increasing need of skilled technical experts and coating professionals. The 2014 Powder Coating Show is designed to meet these needs for the powder coating market. From scientific research and case studies, to application, best practices and product innovations, this conference will serve as a knowledge base for manufacturers and service providers alike.

According to Dave Lurie, PCI Executive Director, “This reshoring initiative is a result of several driving factors, including labor/transportation costs, automation, and quality control. Although, the resurgence of manufacturing jobs in the U.S. is excellent news for the economy, it also comes with its own set of challenges – lack of skilled labor and technical knowledge being the most important.”

This is where organizations like the Powder Coating Institute come in. This not-for-profit trade association supports the manufacturing community by providing the tools for an educated, trained and competent workforce in respect to product coatings.

“We are already seeing a 19 percent increase in conference registration, and exhibit space for this niche market show has increased by 1,000 square feet,” says Tonya Farmer, PCI’s Director of Operations. “A Pre-conference survey shows that 40 percent of registered attendees to date are representatives of manufacturing companies looking to improve their coating operations. This number will only go up as we approach the start of the conference.”
