VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA — Celebrating its fourth year of involvement with the Vancouver GreenTech Exchange, Solegear Bioplastics was recently very honoured to have been chosen as one of only 3 Canadian companies nominated for a 2013 Global Cleantech Cluster Association (GCCA) Later Stage Award for Biofuels/BioEnergy.

“It’s been a privilege to be associated with the Vancouver GreenTech Exchange. The founding work done by SFU’s Innovation Office to establish this GCCA cluster has created an increasingly vital local network that has simply never existed before, underpinning Vancouver’s emerging status as a global cleantech leader," said Toby Reid, Solegear Founder & CEO. “All aspiring entrepreneurs live the inevitable ups and downs of their new ventures, with Solegear being no exception, and this cluster provides critical venture development support and pollination that all emerging green economies need. The GCCA Award nomination is a huge honour for the Solegear team, propelling us further as we engage with customers in Canada, the US and Europe.”

The annual awards recognize innovative mid to late-stage cleantech companies around the world who are thriving in the new green economy and show great potential for growth. The GCCA top 30 semi-finalists will be announced in late October at the International Clean Energy Technology Summit in Atlanta, Georgia. Over 30 venture capital and cleantech judges will then evaluate those semi-finalists and select the winners for the Later Stage Award. They include Generation’s Climate Solutions Fund, The Rockefeller Foundation, Dow Venture Capital and BASF Venture Capital. Winning companies will be announced at the Corporate Cleantech Venture Day on November 20th, 2013 in Lahti, Finland.

“The next significant wave of resource-efficient cleantech companies has arrived,” continued Reid. “It’s an inspiring time for entrepreneurs, an exciting time for progressive investors, and an empowering time for the long-term stability and sustainability of our economies and our communities.”
