Solegear Bioplastics Wins 2014 GLOBE Association Award

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA — Solegear Bioplastics, a leading developer of plant-based plastics and packaging for global brands, was very honored on Friday to be recognized by the GLOBE Foundation with the Best Emerging Technology Award for 2014.

Since 2002, the GLOBE Foundation has recognized business leaders for outstanding achievements in environmental stewardship. Considered to be the most high profile annual awards of their kind, the GLOBE Awards celebrate Canadian companies that excel in sustainable business practices and progressive development in technology and services. The GLOBE Association Award for Best Emerging Technology recognizes the technology with the most promising potential to provide the greatest financial return from broad commercial application.

This coveted award highlights Solegear’s ingenuity in engineering and manufacturing stronger, non-toxic and bio-based plastics under the brand name Polysole®. Not only has this family of biopolymers been adapted to the specific performance requirements of individual customers, but it plays a key role in meeting performance objectives and corporate sustainability goals. Polysole® will even break down into soil and water vapor, in an industrial compost environment, at the end of its useful life.

“We are continuously faced with seemingly unfixable environmental challenges that give call for new innovative solutions. Solegear has made incredibly valuable progress in the advancement of bioplastic technologies that have provided new sustainable solutions for businesses.” said Dr. John Wiebe, CEO of the GLOBE Foundation. “It is our honor at the GLOBE Foundation to recognize Solegear for their diligent efforts in creating a more sustainable future”.

“We are humbled and honored to be recognized for this award by the GLOBE Foundation. Globe’s ability to shine a light on the intersection of business and the environment validates the opportunity that Solegear has uncovered, and is commercializing,” said Toby Reid, Solegear’s founder & CEO. “You don’t have to look too far today to know that we have to reinvent the way that we make and dispose of products made from plastic and I’m incredibly proud of the work that the Solegear team has performed to date in meeting this objective. By providing turnkey options that not only include bioplastic technologies, but innovative manufacturing and end-of-life solutions, we’re seeing continued growing interest as we bridge the gap between cleantech innovation and significant market adoption.”
