San Francisco - Sierra Club's national board of directors has elected new officers for the grassroots environmental organization. Allison Chin of Virginia was named president of the Sierra Club's board of directors. Chin is a life-time member of the Sierra Club and a longtime environmental activist who most recently served as Sierra Club treasurer and served as president from 2008-2010.

"I look forward to continuing my work with the Sierra Club's passionate and dedicated volunteers, staff, members and supporters," said Chin. "I’m proud to take on this important role at an organization that has such a strong commitment to protecting our health, climate and environment at this critical time."

The all-volunteer board of directors serves the organization's 1.4 million members and supporters making policy decisions, conducting governance and keeping the Sierra Club effective in its mission to explore, enjoy and protect the planet.

Chin will work closely with volunteer leaders, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune and other staff members to expand the organization's influence and to educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment.

The other newly announced officers are David Scott of Ohio (returning vice president), Lane Boldman of Kentucky (returning secretary), Donna Buell of Iowa (treasurer) and Jessica Helm of New York (fifth officer), making up the executive committee of the national board of directors.
