CLEVELAND – Sherwin-Williams introduces Sher-Wood® F3 Hi-Bild PreCat Lacquer, its first traditional catalyzed lacquer that provides formaldehyde free finishing, at booth #1955, IWF 2012 (August 22-25; Atlanta, GA). The new finish contains no formaldehyde or ingredients that emit formaldehyde, but still has the overall look, feel and application benefits of a catalyzed lacquer.

Sher-Wood® F3 Hi-Bild PreCat Lacquer joins Sher-Wood® F3 Kemvar® Varnish in the F3 line of formaldehyde free products from Sherwin-Williams. The first product in the F3 line (introduced at AWFS in 2011), Sher-Wood® F3 Kemvar® Varnish recently achieved GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certification and is verified to be formaldehyde free, thus meeting the air quality specifications set by LEED-IAQ and BIFMA.

“Catalyzed lacquers have traditionally had formaldehyde emissions as a by-product of the catalyzation process, and Sherwin-Williams recognizes the impact this has on indoor air quality,” said Mark Harms, Market Director – Furniture, Sherwin-Williams Product Finishes Division. “Sher-Wood® F3 Hi-Bild PreCat Lacquer reduces employee exposure to formaldehyde during curing, and significantly reduces the odor during application. It can also help minimize complaints during product installation or unpacking, when residual formaldehyde emissions may be most noticeable.”

Finishers have long relied on traditional lacquers for their forgiving application characteristics, and the Sher-Wood® F3 Hi-Bild PreCat Lacquer maintains these qualities. When it comes to using alternative technologies, finishers may have to use new spray equipment or revise their finishing set-up, but Sher-Wood® F3 Hi-Bild PreCat Lacquer can be used as a simple drop-in replacement. A self-sealing product, it is compatible with the full range of Sher-Wood® stains and glazes.
