LEESBURG, VA -- REHAU announces its exhibition at the AIA Expo 2014, June 26 to 28, at booth No. 1234 in Chicago. The company will display its complete range of high-performance building solutions, including uPVC window and door designs, radiant heating and cooling, geothermal ground loop heat exchange and new RAUVISIO brilliant™ high-gloss surfaces. Attendees can get a taste of REHAU’s extensive selection of continuing education topics related to sustainable building technology, building envelope and interior furnishings by participating in AIA Expo Chat.
“We are focused on assisting architects, designers and engineers as they navigate an ever-changing building industry,” said Lance MacNevin, manager of REHAU Academy. “Providing quality products and systems, as well as design, and professional development services, REHAU also aims to serve as a knowledge resource for emerging building trends, technologies and certifications.”
Joining MacNevin in REHAU booth No. 1234 are product specialists and engineers prepared to engage in educational discussions on the following high-performance building and design technologies:
REHAU Commercial uPVC Window and Door Designs
REHAU’s comprehensive line of commercial uPVC window and door designs includes solutions to address the tight building envelope goals of today’s sustainable construction projects. With heavy commercial ratings, energy efficiency that surpasses aluminum by 30 percent and sound transmission class (STC) ratings up to the mid 40s, REHAU designs call into question many misconceptions about vinyl. In addition to the proprietary material’s superior thermal properties, a main contributor to REHAU’s high-performance designs is uniquely engineered compression seal technology. These attributes result in lasting performance and the potential for achieving higher performance ratings from organizations such as AAMA, CSA and Energy Star. REHAU high-performance windows and doors are available with compression seal technology in several configurations, including tilt-turn, tilt-slide, lift-slide, bi-fold and casement designs.
REHAU Radiant Heating and Cooling Systems
REHAU engineers will be on hand to discuss how radiant heating and cooling systems can be used in combination with downsized air-handling systems to reduce HVAC energy consumption and initial investment costs while increasing thermal comfort in commercial buildings. Providing one of today’s most comfortable and efficient types of space conditioning, REHAU radiant heating and cooling systems circulate warm and cool water through RAUPEX® crosslinked polyethylene (PEXa) pipe installed in floors, walls or ceilings. A radiant system can be the primary source of heating and cooling or can serve in combination with a traditional HVAC application to improve overall energy efficiency while achieving an ideal level of comfort. Since radiant systems require very moderate supply fluid temperatures, typically 100-120°F (38-49°C) in heating mode and 55-60°F (13-16°C) in cooling mode, they are ideally compatible with geothermal equipment and can deliver some of the highest coefficients of performance.
RAUGEO™ Geothermal Ground Loop Systems
A recent study by the New Buildings Institute found nearly half of all zero-energy buildings in the United States incorporate radiant systems, often integrated with ground sourced heat pumps (GSHPs) to achieve zero energy as part of a cost-effective package. Geothermal systems exchange energy from the earth to heat and cool at a fraction of the operating costs of traditional HVAC, with potential energy savings up to 70 percent. The REHAU RAUGEO™ ground loop heat exchange system employs a unique design and innovative materials to provide numerous advantages over traditional geothermal systems. The RAUGEO crosslinked polyethylene (PEXa) piping system offers superior flexibility and abrasion resistance compared to HDPE, while pre-formed double U-bends require up to 30 percent less borehole footage than a single HDPE U-bend. RAUGEO ground loops usually begin and end at a balancing manifold that, unlike the typical reverse-return header, allows each ground loop to be individually controlled for system optimization. RAUGEO PEXa pipe and compression-sleeve fittings are now recognized by both the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association's (IGSHPA) "Design and Installation Standards 2008 Edition" guide and the CSA Group Standard C448/13 “Design and Installation of Earth Energy Systems.”
RAUVISIO brilliant™ High-Gloss Surfaces
Making their debut at the AIA show are new RAUVISIO brilliant™ high-gloss surfaces featuring seamless laser edging technology. RAUVISIO brilliant surfaces have a color-matched PMMA top layer that enhances color vibrancy and UV resistance, and can be fabricated using REHAU LaserEdge™ technology for a seamless, adhesive-free finish. This innovative technology offers designers the look of solid surface or high-end lacquered finishes at a lower price point. All components – laminate, pressed board and edgeband – are supplied by REHAU, from stock, and are backed by years of German engineering. Designers will not only experience the elegance of REHAU high-gloss surfaces, but will also gain a deeper understanding of how to specify high-gloss finishes in conversation with REHAU furniture specialists.
REHAU Academy Continuing Education Program
REHAU is an AIA CES Approved Provider of 12 continuing education courses related to sustainable building technologies, building envelope and interior furnishings. The company’s Passport Provider status allows for face-to-face and distance learning (via the web) across North America. Courses are registered for 60 to 90 minutes (1.0 to 1.5 learning units) and most qualify as HSW content. The interior furnishing courses are also registered with the Interior Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC). Visit na.rehau.com/academy for seminar topics, current accreditations and online course registration.
AIA Expo Chat
REHAU is participating in the AIA Expo Chat pilot program that offers attendees the opportunity to earn up to 6 learning units for a series of 15-minute educational discussions with exhibitors on the expo floor. With expertise in both building envelope and HVAC solutions, the company is especially qualified to discuss topics in AIA’s energy track such as energy efficient retrofitting and net-zero energy building.
