Performance Team Wins Green Award

Santa Fe Springs, Calif. – Performance Team (PT), an industry-leading Third Party Logistics (3PL), has been awarded the 2012 G75 Green Supply Chain Partner Award from Inbound Logistics for the second year in a row.

PT’s green initiatives, outlined below, exemplify their commitment to the environment and each year they evaluate how to continuously improve their Proudly Green efforts. For example, in South Carolina, PT relocated their transload facility to the Port of Charleston Wando Welch Terminal. This terminal, located on port, eliminates drayage to inland Charleston operations. Drayage to the other facility was 50 miles round-trip. One of their customers currently estimates 1,800 containers for drayage and will see a savings of 90,000 miles this year alone.

“We are proud to be recognized as a green company and honored to be selected as a top green supply chain partner for 2012 by Inbound Logistics for the second year in a row. Our commitment to sustainability runs through every facet of our company,” said Andy Miller, President of Retail Supply Chain at Performance Team.

PT has improved aerodynamics and road safety by installing EPA SmartWay certified hybrid trailer skirts on their trucks. The 22-foot trailer skirts help achieve the best aero performance with EPA/CARB advanced trailer aerodynamics. These skirts also estimate fuel efficiency improvement by 4-5% in California (55 mph maximum speed limit) and 6-7% outside of California.

All of the changes PT has made to help the environment stem from their mission statement, which includes goals such as reducing their carbon footprint, using recycled materials, installing energy efficient lighting fixtures and using environmentally friendly cleaning products. The company’s commitment to the environment extends beyond their internal team, as business partners are expected to share similar philosophies regarding environmental responsibility.

“Throughout 5 million square ft. of warehouse space, our green team is committed to developing the best practices when it comes to sustainability,” said Cliff Katab, President of Performance Team.

Additionally, PT has a mandatory “No Idling” policy, which has been in place since 2007. This policy has minimized vehicle idling in all aspects of fleet and facility operations. The purpose of this policy is to limit idling for commercial tractors and yard spotters to no more than five minutes. This applies to all PT vehicles and to any carriers that are making deliveries to and from the PT facilities.

"Inbound Logistics readers have always recognized the importance of supply chain sustainability,” said Felecia Stratton, Editor at Inbound Logistics. “This year’s selection of top 75 Green Supply Chain Partners – which includes Performance Team – are truly keeping to their word and staying conscious of their own supply chain sustainability. These 75 companies have an outstanding record of making the supply chain more efficient for customers, as well as internally within the business. By striving to become as green as possible, Performance Team is yet again included in this group of companies, and Inbound Logistics is extremely proud to honor their efforts and accomplishments."
