HOLLY SPRINGS, NC — OFM, a leading office and school furniture manufacturer, distributor, and wholesaler, announced today its new Jupiter Stool has won the 2014-2015 ADEX (Awards for Design Excellence) Awards. This recognition is the largest and most prestigious awards program for product design of furniture, fixtures, and finishes and is sponsored by Design Journal, an international trade publication for interior designers, architects, and facility managers.
“Our inspiration for this chair was thinking about what people in the past thought the future would look like, so a retro-futuristic design was the perfect fit,” said Blake Zalcberg, chief executive officer of OFM. “It’s 2015 and it felt like the time was right to design the kind of stool that George Jetson could use.”
The Jupiter Stool is new for 2015 and is emblematic of OFM’s overall design philosophy that rests on creating furniture that’s functional, versatile, and stylish. The stool has an indented side that can nest with other stools, but can also stand alone on its own either as a place to sit or rest your feet.
The new stool is part of OFM’s effort to keep up with today’s overall design trend of creating flexible and friendly spaces where people can easily collaborate with each other, whether they’re meeting to plan an event or sitting in a classroom for a group lesson.
OFM says its new Jupiter Stool works particularly well in spaces where things can be reconfigured depending on specific layout needs. It will be showcasing other new futurist products, like the Jupiter Stool, at this year’s annual NeoCon, the largest design exposition and conference for commercial interiors, in June.
“We’re always trying to find a way to add a little flair, color, and fun to our furniture design to help keep office, educational, and other workplace settings from feeling too institutional while at the same time helping to spawn creativity,” added Zalcberg. “With this product we aimed to put the fun back into functional. Just because it’s a stool, doesn’t mean it can’t be cool.”

ADEX (Awards for Design Excellence) is the largest and most prestigious award competition for excellence in product design of furnishings and building materials marketed to the design trade, with over 600 companies participating this year. For over 20 years, ADEX Awards has recognized products demonstrating superior innovation, function and aesthetics.
Nearly 3,000 judges serve on the ADEX global advisory board, which consists of internationally renowned architects and interior designers who actively specify the product categories they evaluate. A rigorous classification process ensures that nominated products reach the right audience and compete fairly. One of the first awards to acknowledge sustainability a decade ago, ADEX reports that 90% of this year’s award entrants spotlight products or processes that benefit the environment.
