National Office Furniture Earns Additional SCS Certification

National Office Furniture Earns Additional SCS CertificationJASPER, IN -- National Office Furniture announces certification of additional products achieving the Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) Indoor Advantage Gold mark for low-emitting furnishings. National’s wood veneer casegoods, tables, storage, media cabinets, wall rail solutions and dividers earn the SCS Indoor Advantage Gold mark by meeting and exceeding stringent emission criteria that can protect the respiratory health of occupants. Featuring National’s proprietary, water-based UV finish, IntegraClear, nine veneer casegood series have been elevated to SCS Indoor Advantage Gold along with all the company’s table solutions. These products join the company’s seating portfolio which previously earned SCS Indoor Advantage Gold.

The Indoor Advantage Gold mark complies with USGBC LEED credit EQ4.5. Additionally, 100% of company-manufactured products earn level 2 or 3 certification assuring customers that National products are sustainable, produced in an environmentally-friendly manner and come from a responsible manufacturer which may qualify for additional credits under LEED Pilot Credit 43.

Indoor Advantage is a third party certification program that focuses solely on indoor air quality. The Indoor Advantage Gold program certifies office furniture to the emission criteria of BIFMA X-7.1 and the more stringent California Special Environmental Requirements Specification 01350 criteria adopted by Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS). The Indoor Advantage Gold program indicates that concentrations for individual volatile organic compounds (VOCs) do not exceed one-half of the Chronic Reference Exposure Levels as it considers the collective air quality from all products and building materials; therefore, the need for stricter requirements.

“Indoor air quality is critical to the well-being of a building’s occupants. We want to not only contribute to healthier environments, but also make it easy to find sustainable furnishings. That’s why we third-party certify our products to provide assurance to our customers, be transparent and fulfill our commitment to being social and environmental stewards,” said Mendy Claridge, Sustainable and Technical Product Solutions manager, LEED AP ID+C, National Office Furniture.

National products are available on the online tool, ecoScorecard, for quick and easy sustainable product research, calculations and documentation for LEED and other green rating systems.
