ST. LOUIS – The National Wood Flooring Association conducted two service projects to benefit the Nashville community during its Wood Flooring Expo held there April 16-19 at the new Music City Center.

The first was a children’s book drive to benefit Book’em, a non-profit organization that provides new and gently used books to low-income children. The organization distributes more than 40,000 books annually to children of all ages. NWFA Expo attendees donated several hundred books during the show.

The second community service project benefited Operation Finally Home, a non-profit organization that provides custom-built, mortgage-free homes to wounded veterans and their families, as well as the widows of fallen veterans. Operation Finally Home brings together corporate sponsors, builders, developers, individual contributors, and volunteer laborers to provide these veterans and their families with one of their most pressing needs – a home to call their own.

On Saturday, April 19, a group of NWFA member volunteers installed more than 1,000 square feet of wood flooring donated by Mohawk Industries in the home of veteran Adam Montavon. Montavon served as a Flight Medic for a MEDEVAC Air Ambulance Company, evacuating and treating thousands of soldiers during tours in Honduras and Afghanistan. He has received the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal and other awards during his tours.

In addition to installing flooring, NWFA volunteers performed a variety of other tasks to transform the home, including cleaning, landscaping and maintenance. All materials, equipment and labor needed to install the flooring were donated by the following NWFA member companies.
