Mendota High School Students Tour Black Brothers Company

Approximately 300 students from 13 area high schools participated in the 1st annual North Central Illinois Discover Manufacturing Career Expo held on Wednesday, October 23rd. Nineteen Mendota High School students, led by Mrs. Tarr and Mr. Landers, started their morning by touring Black Brothers Company in Mendota.

Mendota High School Students Tour Black Brothers CompanyThere they were given the opportunity to meet with various employees of the company, learn more about the manufacturing process, and observe several of Black Brother’s laminating machines in action. Tour leaders impressed upon the students the need for math and communication skills and the importance of developing a positive work ethic.

Following the keynote speakers, students were given the opportunity to meet with local manufacturing employers to learn more about the requirements for employment in their field of interest. The event concluded with several drawings for prizes – Monica Leonard, a senior at Mendota High School, was the lucky grand prize winner of an iPad mini.
