MONROE, MI - This year, La-Z-Boy celebrates its 85th year of manufacturing and marketing legendary furniture. Since its inception in 1927, La-Z-Boy has evolved into a household name, providing great-looking and innovative furniture for homes around the globe. The company will commemorate 85 years of quality, comfort and style with a company-wide anniversary celebration at its headquarters and other locations across the country.

In their hometown of Monroe, Michigan, young cousins Edward M. Knabusch and Edwin J. Shoemaker started a partnership to make furniture 85 years ago, in particular a chair that reclined. What started off as a handshake became La-Z-Boy, one of the world’s primary furniture manufacturers, and a true American success story. With corporate headquarters that remain in Monroe, five U.S. manufacturing plants and four distribution centers, La-Z-Boy honors its American heritage by employing more than 5,000 people nationwide.

La-Z-Boy also offers consumers a wide variety of casegoods (wood) furniture products under the brand names of American Drew, Lea, Hammary and Kincaid. And, in addition to the La-Z-Boy brand, the company also includes well-known upholstery companies and brands Bauhaus and England. Many of these products are sold through La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries stores.
