GREENWICH, CT — Atlas Holdings LLC announced that Kurt Liebich has been appointed Group Executive for Wood Products and President and CEO of Wood Resources LLC, Atlas’ specialty and commodity plywood products business. Liebich will also continue in his current role as President and CEO of RedBuilt LLC, Atlas’ wood-based structural solutions company.

Simultaneous with Liebich’s appointment, Richard Yarbrough, who has led Wood Resources since its founding in 2003, has been named Chairman of the Board. William R. Corbin, previously Chairman of the Board, will remain actively involved on Wood Resources’ Board as Chairman of the Executive Committee. Both Corbin and Yarbrough are also members of RedBuilt’s Board.

Wood Resources produces wood panels for industrial applications and commercial and residential construction markets through its three operating companies: Moncure Plywood in Moncure, N.C.; Chester Wood Products in Chester, S.C.; and Olympic Panel Products in Shelton, WA. Each company serves unique segments of the market for wood panels. RedBuilt is a leading supplier of engineered lumber products based in Boise, ID.

Atlas Holdings Chairman and Managing Partner Andrew Bursky noted that in addition to a seamless transition, the leadership changes place Wood Resources in capable hands. “Kurt is uniquely qualified for this role, and the steps we have taken today are strategically important to Wood Resources and RedBuilt,” Bursky says. “There are tremendous synergies both companies can realize under Kurt’s expert guidance. For instance, the businesses will be able to take a more holistic approach to developing raw material sourcing strategies in the western United States. Given the pending economic recovery, sourcing raw materials is one of the top strategic priorities for both companies over the next five years.”

Liebich joined RedBuilt’s predecessor, Trus Joist, in 1994 and served in numerous senior management roles in finance, marketing, production, and operations, helping to grow the company into a billion dollar business. He remained with the company when Weyerhauser acquired it in 1999, and was appointed Vice President of the Trus Joist division in 2005 before his promotion to Vice President of Marketing for iLevel, Weyerhauser’s Wood Products division. When Atlas Holdings acquired the former commercial division of Trus Joist from Weyerhauser in 2009, it appointed Liebich as President and CEO of the company which they named RedBuilt.

“I’m excited about my expanded role within the Atlas Holdings portfolio of companies,” Liebich says. “Like all construction-related businesses, Wood Resources has endured difficult challenges over the last several years, but it’s an industry leader with a vibrant, robust culture, and it’s well poised to take advantage of improving market conditions. For example, last year the company saw a seven-fold increase in profits over 2011 while achieving the best safety performance in its history.”
