Palatine, Ill. – Imperial Woodworking Company (IWC) has won the prestigious WBC Star Craftmanship Award for Visual Excellence for the firm’s Square 54 project in Washington DC. Since 1956, The WBC Craftmanship Award is given annually to honor those who provided exceptional workmanship on buildings throughout the Washington, DC area. Additionally, judges are asked to recommend projects that deserve special recognition for demonstrating the highest level of quality and exceeding the award’s criteria to achieve a level defined as “exceptional” in one of the Star Awards categories. Imperial Woodworking Company was honored with this award at the WBC Craftmanship Awards dinner held on March 23, 2012 in Washington DC. Representing IWC were Frank Huschitt III, President and Paul Garvin III, Vice President/Project Manager.

The project was designed by Gensler’s Washington DC office which specified Swiss Pear Wood for the office fronts. Imperial Woodworking did the veneer selections directly in Europe handpicking over 200,000 square feet from suppliers. The veneer was then blue print matched and stained slightly to achieve the desired result.

Since 1999, ten IWC projects have been honored with the Craftmanship award. Four of these projects were nominated for the STAR award of which two received this award for Visual Excellence. Imperial Woodworking Company is the only custom millworker to receive this honor twice in the past fifteen years.
