CARNEGIE, PA -- Vollmer of America Corp. has announced that since Sept. 1, 2011, Dr. Manuel Gerst has lead the technology team at Vollmer Maschinenbau Werke GmbH. As technology director he is responsible for the entire business area of technology for the specialists in grinding and eroding machines in Biberach.

“With Dr. Manuel Gerst, we have brought a technology expert on board who will support us in further expanding our portfolio of sharpening machines,” says Dr. Stefan Brand, CEO of the Vollmer Group. “We expect to benefit particularly from his many years of experience in the design of chipping tool machines and in the development of processes in grinding machines."    

Before joining Vollmer, Dr. Gerst held managerial positions at Gildemeister AG and Robert Bosch GmbH. More recently, he was the design and development manager at Gildemeister AG, where he coordinated all of the company's development projects and continually improved innovation management. At Robert Bosch GmbH, in the company's internal special machine manufacturing division, he was responsible for the grinding section, where he was in charge of the machine portfolio and process development. Dr. Gerst received his doctorate at Technische Universität München in Mechanical Engineering in the Product Development Faculty.
