German Furniture Industry Sees Opportunity in Russia

Demand for space at the second edition of Rooms Moscow/MIFS is high. International companies in the interiors sector and their suppliers are showing great interest in the event. "Demand from German exhibitors in particular is significantly higher than at the last event", said Marc Zöllig, project manager for overseas trade fairs of Koelnmesse. In the context of current economic developments, gaining entry to Europe's largest furniture market outside the EU is growing in importance. Buoyed by the booming Russian economy, Rooms Moscow/MIFS has quickly become one of the most important furniture shows in Russia. This is confirmed by Zöllig: “Moscow is the ideal location to present new and innovative products to an economically strong audience from Russia and other Eastern European countries."

With continuously growing market volume and annual growth of German exports of around 20%, Russia is currently the most important growth market for the German furniture industry. In this sector, Germany is a real pioneer: The country has the highest per capita sales in furniture and is the fourth-largest furniture manufacturer in the world. Germany is globally considered one of the top furniture manufacturers. Due to the high quality of its products, "Made in Germany" has an excellent international reputation. Today, German furniture brands are very popular not only because of their quality, but also because of their design. In 2012, the German industry exported 9.2 billion Euros worth of furniture. Companies like Ballerina Küchen, Hartmann Möbelwerke, Nolte Delbrück, Blanco and Meise Möbel GmbH & Co. KG and, in the supply industry, Interprint GmbH, Renolit SE, RAL gGmbH, Jowat AG, Trendelkamp Technologie, Suspa GmbH and MKT Moderne Kunststoff-Technik Gebr. Eschbach GmbH have all taken the opportunity to enter the future-orientated Russian market, as part of the German pavilion initiative supported by the BMWi (Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology).

The new fair format of ”Rooms Moscow“ is lively, diverse and interactive. The role the fair plays is extremely important for two reasons. It is a key commercial platform for companies from abroad – especially those from Germany – and it is the perfect opportunity to network and make contacts with traders from Russia and the CIS States. It also acts as a benchmark of the domestic furniture industry.

The combination of international brands and Russian manufacturers makes the Rooms Moscow/MIFS fair very attractive to visitors from all over Russia and the neighbouring CIS States. It is therefore not surprising that the number of exhibitors and trade visitors from abroad as well as from Germany continues to grow every year. The forecast is for an ideal fair in May!
