Fill Enters the Finnish Timber Market

Austrian machine engineering specialists supply Metsä Wood with fully automatic wood re-touching system. First contract in the huge Finnish timber market.

Fill Enters the Finnish Timber MarketFill Machine Engineering delivers a "speedfiller plywood" spot repair system to Metsä Wood (formerly Finnforest). Metsä Wood is a wood processing company based in Suolahti, central Finland, with a workforce of more than 4,000 employees. Due to the special demands of Metsä Wood, it was necessary to adapt the tried and tested "speedfiller" machines to the customer´s specific requirements. Once again, Fill has managed to score highly with individual customer solutions. "This is our first order for Metsä Wood and our first ever wood processing machine order in Finland. We have thereby succeeded in gaining a foothold in the highly interesting Scandinavian market for plywood," explains a delighted CEO Andreas Fill.

Gurten, Austria – Fill´s Wood Competence Center has landed a major order from Finland. The internationally active wood processing company Metsä Wood has taken delivery of a "speedfiller plywood" spot repair system. The machine in question is a specially refined derivative of the proven "speedfiller" concept for plywood. Due to the limited amount of space available on site, it is necessary to employ combined heads, which are capable of performing milling and repairs in a single operation. Fill´s engineers developed an excellent solution for this problem. And with this, Fill has made a successful entry into the huge Finnish plywood market.

Scoring highly with flexible customer solutions

The "speedfiller plywood" spot repair system allows plywood surfaces to be touched up fully automatically with consistent quality for the very first time. "Alongside cost advantages, above all the automated production process provides a distinct improvement in working conditions," explains Erwin Altendorfer, Manager of the Wood Competence Center at Fill. Due to the customer´s requirements, it was necessary to refine the tried and tested "speedfiller" spot repair systems. The new "speedfiller plywood" uses combined heads that can perform milling and repair operations simultaneously. "This greatly impressed our Finnish partner," reports Erwin Altendorfer.

Superlative quality with maximum output

The fully automated repairing of wood surfaces (parquet, multilayer boards, plywood) is a revolutionary technology from Fill. After automatic loading of the system, a scanner detects every possible fault in the wood and passes this information to the processing portal. Larger defects can be milled out and then filled with two-component polyurethane. Smaller defects are touched up with single-component filler material. At the same time, savings of up to 50 percent are made in the filler material. Depending on the specific requirement, the "speedfiller plywood" achieves an impressive capacity. Up to 5,000 boards with up to 50,000 defects can be identified and touched up fully automatically per shift.
