Arauco Announces ISO/OHSAS Certification Approval

Atlanta, GA - Arauco North America is pleased to announce its achievement of ISO 14001 - Environmental Management System, and OHSAS 18001 - Safety Management System certifications in December 2014. All but one of the North American mill operations have been certified to these rigorous, internationally recognized standards; Moncure, NC, will attain certification in 2015.

ISO / OHSAS are performance based standards for systematic management of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) activities. Each standard has 20 elements that must be addressed. Arauco undertook this effort to provide a disciplined approach to EHS with the goal to continuously improve safety and environmental performances. Since the beginning of 2014 Arauco is well on its way to a 10% energy reduction, and has maintained its lowest company-wide recordable injury rate in seven years. With less than 1.5 injuries throughout the year the company is 45% below the CPA industry average. They are also well on the way to a 10% energy reduction from 2010.

"When we started down the path of ISO / OHSAS Certification in 2013, we had many EHS elements in place but, they were not effectively organized and systematic. With committed resources we now have an EHS Management System we believe will produce positive results for years to come." - Richard Weber, Director of EHS & Sustainability.
