Aerodyne GPC Compact Cyclone Dust Collector Solves Wood Shop Woes

CLEVELAND, OH -- Aerodyne, a specialist in solving dry material handling problems, was recently enlisted by a large government facility based in Honolulu, HI, to improve the dust collection system on their newly expanded wood shop.  The expansion of a large recreational facility included adding several new woodworking machines, redesigning system ductwork, and installing a new GPC compact cyclone dust collector from Aerodyne.  Upon reviewing the strict project specifications and production schedule for the job, Aerodyne recommended the installation of a new 13,000 CFM GPC dust collector.  The requirement of an outdoor collector installed no higher than the roofline of the building made the GPC an obvious choice.  The unique ground-plate design of the GPC allows for a much more compact unit when compared to other high-efficiency cyclones.

The GPC cyclone dust collector utilizes a dished ground plate installed in the center of the cyclone barrel.  This feature eliminates the need for a long tapered cone as required by other high-efficiency cyclones.  The compact size of this collector allows for installation in locations with low overhead clearances and reduces the need for tall maintenance scaffolding.  The GPC dust collector is ideal for use as a pre-cleaner for baghouses and other filter type dust collection equipment.  Because the GPC has no filters or moving components, it is well suited for reclaiming valuable product for reuse in process.

The installation of the 13,000 CFM GPC dust collector at the newly upgraded recreational facility not only met the strict requirements of the government specification but provided a marked improvement over the previous dust collection system.  The high collection efficiency of the GPC greatly reduced the maintenance requirements of the system and the low pressure drop of the collector keeps operational costs at a minimum.
