Dieburg/Munich - For this year‘s start of the German STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® season visitors of LIGNA 2013 will experience an exciting extrem sport firsthand. Germany‘s best lumberjack athletes will compete on 9th May to achieve victory at the “4th LIGNACup“ and score important points on the way the the German Championship.

4th LIGNACup of the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS SeriesThis year Hannover (GER) will be host to exciting competitions when Germany‘s best lumberjack athletes will compete at LIGNA 2013 for the start of the German STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® season. The “LIGNACup“ at the world‘s most important fair for the wood manufacturing industry has by now become an institution – the competition takes place for the forth time here already.

Extreme sport with axe and saw

The STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® SERIES is regarded as the premier lumberjack competition and is held in more than 20 countries worldwide. This modern extreme sport is based on traditional woodworking and simulates the logging and cutting of trees with axes and saws. Athletes compete side-by-side in six disciplines. Here it‘s not only about power and stamina but above all about the right technique. Long years of intense training are required to get to the top. The „hot saw“ marks the spectacular highlight. Tuned to more than 60 HP and weighing up to 27 kg this saw is handled by absolute professionals only.

Competition and shows

The STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® SERIES will be hosted in Hannover during the whole LIGNA fair. Besides the competition on Thursday two athletes will demonstrate their skills at regular shows on all other days. The stage is set at the open-air site in the area M05 south of pavillon 32 underneath the Expo roof. Interested visitors can test their own talent during the shows with the 2 m handsaw „Single Buck“.

In 2013 Germany is the centre of the STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® SERIES

For the participants at LIGNA it‘s not only about victory but also about important points on the way to the German Championship. At the end of July the best athletes will compete in Oberstdorf / Allgäu (GER) to crown their champion. The World Championship in October hosted in Stuttgart (GER) marks the international highlight of the SERIES.
