Mastercam Developer CNC Software Commemorates 30th AnniversaryTOLLAND, CT – CNC Software Inc. commemorates 30 years in business this year with a retrospective look at the evolution of the company and its Mastercam line of software for the woodworking industry.

Brothers Mark and Jack Summers incorporated CNC Software in 1983 with a programming concept for CNC machine tools; brother Brian later joined the company and now serves as vice president.

According to the company, from the beginning CNC Software differentiated itself from other software firms by focusing on the CAM side of the CAD/CAM package. “Ours was developed with the machinist and the design engineer in mind,” President Mark Summers said in a statement. “I was a machinist. It’s a direct approach – design the parts and generate the toolpaths to machine them.”

CNC Software has continued its growth path, with programs available for: multi-axis milling, routing, turning, wire EDM, plasma and laser cutting, 3D design and drafting, Swiss machining, etc. At the end of 2012, the company had 165,000 seats of Mastercam installed, plus more than 400 dealers worldwide.
