“We are putting a lot of energy into this,” says marketing manager Claudia Tuttle. Accuride has not exhibited at trade shows since 2008. But customer demand and the improving business climate has brought them into the 2013 AWFS Fair.
“Business is not where it was before, but we’re starting to see steady improvement,” says Tuttle, contrasting steadily growing sales with the “choppy trends” that saw business spiking, then dropping, in unpredictable patterns.
“Our focus will be on applications that resonate with commercial production and with cabinet makers,” Tuttle says. The 1,800 square foot booth will feature real-world examples of Accuride slides in use and on display, including a new product from Europe not yet offered here: a bulk-storage Tilt Slide, intended for the garage storage or similar applications.
“It’s very industrial,” Tuttle says. On this station, Accuride will also display the two way travel slide, and the Pro pocket (pocket door model 1321). “We are using the pocket door in unique applications,” says Tuttle. Widely used to stow away big TVs, “ Now we are finding pocket doors in a wide range of applications that disguise content - from medical storage, to retail, to office space,” says Tuttle. “This station solves a few challenges like having access to contents on both sides of the cabinet, content length, and keeping things out sight.”
While the final theme language for Accuride’s exhibit is still under development, there will be 10 new stations, each with three or more products, presenting Accuride as a source for complete solutions, and communicating, “Accuride has everything you need,” Tuttle says. Part of the plans include a comparative wall, presenting slides made from different materials, and with various coatings and load ratings.
“A lot of work is going into this booth,” Tuttle says. “We are putting our heart and soul into this. We expect it to be good.”
Accuride will also present closets solutions, a designers’ corner with collateral materials for the architectural industries and an “advanced technologies” section – “things that we have been working on for all industries,” Tuttle notes. (The company also supplies slides for ovens, automotive and computer server racks.)
Another major attraction in a separate area is Accuride’s highly popular sidelight: the Belt Sander Racing Association national Championship Belt Sander Races set for Thursday, July 25th at 4 p.m. in the Machinery Hall. Crowd favorite Guy Bucasas will act as the announcer for the event, where he sets the pace for fun with his running commentary and lively banter. This year the belt sander races will be augmented by a sander demolition derby, and other surprises around the raceway to add to the excitement.
