Woodworking machinery exports buoy Italian industryMILAN --

Recovery in the Italian woodworking industry recorded an abrupt slowdown in the April-June 2011 period, with rates closer to 2010 rather than the positive start of 2011, according to Acimall, the Italian woodworking machinery association.

The Italian woodworking machinery and tools industry recorded a 0.4% increase in orders compared to the same period of last year. Foreign orders increased by 15.6%, while domestic demand dropped 31.5%.

Acimall's quarterly forecast survey of its woodworking machinery members indicates that while there is moderate optimism for foreign markets, there is no sign of an imminent rally of the home Italian market demand.
