Wood research groups unite for co-located events, offer Webcasts

BOISE, ID – The Forest Products Society and Society of Wood Science and Technology will host their respective annual conventions back-to-back next month at the Doubletree Hotel Boise-Riverside.

The 63rd International Convention of the FPS is scheduled for June 21-23. The general session will highlight innovative uses of forest products and sustainable design from the perspective of leading architects. Other sessions on the agenda include "Current Topics in Physics and Drying," "Marketing and Utilization of Temperate and Tropical Species" and "Carbon Impacts on Market Opportunities." The SWST’s convention will be held on Wednesday, June 24. Highlights of the program include “Forest Certification – What it Really Means,” “Materials are Green Only in Relationship to Each Other – LEED/USGBC Issues,” and “Why Efficient Manufacturing is the Essence of Sustainability.” For more information or to register, Society of Wood Science and Technology

Both conventions offer distance learning opportunities through live Webcasts. Sessions on “Expanding the Potential of Wood: An Appeal from Architects” and “Treated Wood Products” will be Webcast beginning at 8:00 a.m. (MST) and 2:30 p.m. (MST) respectively.
