Wood Products Facilities Cut Water Use

WASHINGTON – Thirty-six wood, pulp and paper facilities have reduced their collective water use by more than 1.1 billion gallons as a result of their membership in the Environmental Protection Agency’s National Environmental Performance Track Program. Performance Track encourages facilities to voluntarily commit to making improvements that affect the quality of air, water and land.

Over the last 5 years, wood products facilities in the Performance Track program also have reduced their overall discharge of water toxic elements, such as BOD, COD, TSS, sediment and nutrients, by more than 10,000 tons.
