LEESBURG, VA -- North American wood composite panel shipments in May were 479 MMSF compared to 504 MMSF (3/4” basis) for the same month last year, a decrease of 4.8%, according to the Composite Panel Association monthly shipment report.

Particleboard shipments were 279 MMSF (3/4” basis), down 4.7% from May 2010. Year-to-date particleboard shipments are down 4.4% compared to the first five months of 2010. MDF shipments were 161 MMSF (3/4” basis) down 5.7% from last May and down 3.4% year-to-date. Hardboard shipments were 239 MMSF (1/8” basis), down 4.7% from the same month one year ago but up 1.2% compared to the first five months of 2010.

The CPA also reported that shipments of Thermally Fused Melamine (TFM) for May were 108 MMSF, up 2.0% from May 2010, but down 4.2% compared to April 2011.
