GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- Universal Forest Products Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of wood and wood-alternative products, reported a record year, including 2006 net earnings of $70.1 million, an increase of 4.1% over reported results for 2005, according to Business Wire.

President and CEO Michael B. Glenn noted that the company’s performance reflects challenging market conditions, including a 41% drop in single-family housing starts for the quarter and an estimated 50% decrease in industry shipments of HUD-code manufactured housing for the quarter. The company anticipates growth in its business in 2007.
