Uniboard Purchases NC Facility and Announces New MDF/HDF Mill in the U.S.

MONCURE, NC — Uniboard, a North American manufacturer of engineered wood products, on Aug. 1 announced the purchase of ATC Panel’s Moncure, NC, facility, which will now operate as Uniboard USA LLC, Moncure Plant.

The particleboard and thermofused melamine plant employs close to 160 people and produces annually more than 156 million square feet of particleboard and value-added melamine. With significant plans for expansion, Uniboard will be investing more than $120 million in the upcoming year to install on the Moncure site a state-of-the-art medium density and high density fiberboard line.

“This is a significant step in Uniboard’s strategic plan to strengthen our leadership in engineered wood panels in Eastern North America and become the supplier of choice with our customers,” said James Hogg, president and CEO of Uniboard. “Our new, optimally-located service point is not only capable of offering raw particleboard, but more importantly, we will be able to supply furniture makers, kitchen cabinet, store fixture and distribution channels with Uniboard’s widely recognized thermofused melamine product offering. With the installation of our MDF/HDF line, we will be in a favorable position to supply our sister company Pergo, located in Raleigh, and our customers located in the Midwest and Southern U.S. The acquisition of the Moncure facility is a reflection of Uniboard’s long term commitment to our customers, especially on the East Coast, and solidifies our offering in laminate flooring through Pergo.”
