- Thomasville 's 830,000 square-foot RTA furniture and contract casegoods woodworking facility, closed earlier this year, hits the auction block August 10.
Thomasville, a unit of Furniture Brands International, Inc., which has been consolidating wood manufacturing operations to other existing plants, had produced ready-to-assemble furniture and furnishings for hotels at the site.
Thomasville transferred portions of the production to Furniture Brands facilities in Thomasville and Lenoir, NC, and outsource to Asia and Latin America, and laid off200 workers. The closure and sale of the Thomasville Appomattox furniture factory was projected to result in restructuring charges totaling approximately $7 million, while annual cost savings would run to approximately $5 million, according to Furniture Brands.
âThis auction provides a once in a lifetime opportunity for buyers and manufacturers alike to purchase state-of-the-art equipment as well as the accompanying building â at a great value,â said David Barkoff, director of sales at auctioneer Heritage Global Partners.
Thomasville woodworking machinery and equipment, trucks, material handling equipment and facility support equipment are available, says Barkoff.
