LAS VEGAS – The AWFS Vegas Fair will go on but minus two of its largest woodworking machinery exhibitors.
Citing the poor state of the economy, Stiles Machinery Inc. of Grand Rapids, MI, and Biesse America of Charlotte, NC, independently announced that they have cancelled plans to exhibit at the show scheduled for July 15-18 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
According to information posted on its Web site, “Stiles Machinery views the slow economy as an opportunity to redistribute resources that would have been incurred by participating in AWFS Vegas this year. Stiles has been proud to exhibit at every AWFS fair since its inception, but they feel that it is inappropriate to do so this year. The company intends to redirect efforts to support their customers by developing new strategies to weather this economic climate.”
In the words of Peter Kleinschmidt, CEO of Stiles Machinery, “We can apply these resources to all customers and not just those who may attend the show."
Biesse issued a press release explaining its “non-participation” at the AWFS Vegas Fair. According to Federico Broccoli, CEO of Biesse America and Canada, “Although the market share of Biesse America and Canada continues to grow, we prefer to maintain a cautious approach toward initiatives not showing an immediate return on investment. For this reason, we are tailoring our marketing efforts towards programs that appeal to more specific individuals and companies.”
The press release noted that Biesse will continue to operate its “One2One” and “Test Drive” events. In addition, Biesse plans to introduce several new, “customer-focused initiatives” such as the “One2One Road Show”, “One2One WebEx” and Webinar Series.
