GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- Steelcase Inc. has recalled approximately 165,000 Cachet swivel chairs because of potential fall hazards.

The recall was jointly announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada.

According to the CPSC, the front seat support part of the chair can crack and fail, posing a fall hazard to consumers.

In spite of the immensity of the recall, Steelcase only received one report of a chair support failure resulting in a back injury.

The recalled chairs were manufactured in the United States between May 2002 and October 15, 2009 and sold by Authorized Steelcase dealers and retail outlets including Healthy Back Store, CSN, Home Office Solutions, Office & Company and Sam Flax stores nationwide and online for up to $600.

Steelcase has agreed to replace chairs for individual consumers who purchased chairs online or from retail outlets. In the case of commercial customers who purchased chairs in quantity, Steelcase said it will replace the chair support parts.

The recall comes on the heels of Steelcase's announcement that it will close three U.S. manufacturing plants.
