| New machinery and supply displays drew 4,600 industry
professionals to SIBO 2008.
LAVAL, QUE â Salon Industriel du Bois Ouvré (SIBO) completed a successful three-day run, capping its move to a new venue under new ownership.
Forty-six hundred woodworking professionals and industry suppliers gathered for SIBO at the Forzani Place in Laval, Oct. 23-25. The show was moved to Laval by the eventâs new owner, Vance Communications Canada.
âThe new location of SIBO this year brought a lot of different buyers in, as compared to two years ago,â said Claude Arsenault, vice president of Holz-Her Canada and president of the Canadian Woodworking Machinery Distributors Assn. âThere was some good sales action on the show floor, with our members reporting lots of specific interest on the part of the buyers present. The new hall is bright and the location was convenient to the major highways running through the city.â
âWe were extremely pleased with the turnout for SIBO and the high level of buyer-seller interaction on the show floor,â said Ned Bardic, vice president of Vance. âConsidering the state of the North American economy, the registration numbers exceeded our expectations.â
More than 130 exhibitors displayed their wares at SIBO, Quebecâs most important woodworking event. A full complement of woodworking machinery, tooling, software, cabinet and furniture hardware, and board products covered the 90,000-square-foot exhibit hall.
The SIBO Expo was preceded on Oct. 22 by a one-day conference, âFocus on Growth Strategies.â The conference explored diverse subject matter, including âGreen Building â A Growing Opportunity,â âClosets & Home Organization Trendsâ and âOnline Marketing: A Strategy for Success.â
The next SIBO is scheduled for Oct. 21-23, 2010 at the Forzani Place.
The Canadian woodworking industry will next turn its attention to the Woodworking Machinery & Supply Expo, Sept. 24-26, 2009, at the International Centre in Mississauga (Toronto), ON. For more information, visit www.woodworkingexpo.ca.
