- Schmidt Custom Cabinetry, a woodworking business being expanded by its parent Schmidt Construction,  requested permits and a tax abatement from local governments so it can build a 50 x 80 foot building to house its cabinetry operation. The Emporia Gazette reports owner Doug Schmidt needs the new building for expansion of growing cabinet making activities.

Schmidt launched Schmidt Construction, a custom building business, 30 years ago, specializing in new homes and remodeling. In 2004, the company began manufacturing custom-built kitchen cabinets. Growing demand led Doug Schmidt and his son Tyler Schmidt to expand the cabinet-making division into a full-time custom cabinet shop. Schmidt says it employs a dedicated staff with more than 60 years of combined experience.
