Sauder Woodworking lays off 120 employees

Sauder Woodworking laid off 120 employees on July 31, in response to a lack of demand for the company’s ready-to-assemble furniture, according to a report in the Archbold Buckeye.

Based in Archbold, Ohio, Sauder Woodworking Co. is a leading producer of RTA furniture and one of the largest residential furniture manufacturers in the United States. The company makes entertainment centers, bedroom furniture, office furniture and more under several brand names including Sauder, O’Sullivan and Studio RTA.

A privately held, family-run company with more than 2,500 employees, Sauder also has several subsidiaries: Progressive Furniture Inc., a manufacturer and importer of solid wood, veneered and laminate furniture; and Sauder Manufacturing Co., a manufacturer of seating for churches, schools and health care facilities.

In March 2008 Sauder Woodworking laid off more than 70 employees due to the economic downturn.
