HIGH POINT – According to the most recent survey of accounting and consulting firm Smith Leonard PLLC, new orders fell in May, compared to May of 2007. 

New orders were down 6% compared to May 2007 and down 9% from April. Reportedly, new  orders usually fall some in May due to orders received at market. Year-to-date, new orders remained 8% less than the first five months of last year. 

Shipments in May were down 10% from May 2007 but were only off 2% compared to April. Shipments in May 2007 were off 7% compared to May 2006.
