HUDSON, NC -- Multiple explosions that triggered a massive fire May 28 at RPM Finishes Group facility remains under investigation.
The blaze was out of control by the time the first fire department units arrived and there were reports of additional explosions as firefighters fought the fire, according to the Observer News Enterprise.
The fire in a warehouse that stored drums of chemicals used to make finishes, including for industrial wood and metal coating. The conflagration did minimal damage to the complex's manufacturing plant.
The Environmental Protection Agency sent agents to inspect potential contamination to ground and water supply.
