TUCSON, AZ — Pella Corp., a window and door manufacturer, on Nov. 6 announced plans to halt production at its Tucson, AZ, vinyl window plant late this month and lay off the plant's 65 workers, according to the Chicago Tribune. The Iowa-based company said the depressed new housing market and a downturn in home renovations forced the decision.
Pella spokeswoman Kathy Krafka Harkema said the company owns the Tucson plant and hopes to reopen it when the housing market rebounds. “We continue to make products at other locations across the country,” she said. “We had excess capacity, and Tucson is our smallest vinyl facility. That’s why Tucson is being idled at this time.”
