MEMPHIS, TN -- The National Hardwood Lumber Assn. recognized a quintet of member companies at its 2006 annual convention in San Antonio.

Pike Lumber Co. of Akron, IN, received the Forest Stewardship Award. Tom Walthousen, associate executive manager of Resource Development for NHLA, said, “In the hardwood industry, Pike leads by example in the education, political, management and forest resource arenas. It’s desire to better the world’s only renewable resource is outstanding and obviously represented in its many achievements.”

In addition, four companies were recognized as century-long members of the NHLA. They are Maley & Wertz of Evansville, IN, Babcock Lumber Co. of Pittsburgh, PA, Heidler Hardwood Lumber of Chicago, IL; and Cole Hardwood of Logansport, IN.
