New Wood Technology Center to be built in Wisconsin
ANTIGO, WI - A new Wood Technology Center of Excellence is being constructed in Antigo, WI, co-created by Langlade County and Northcentral Technical College.  The U.S. Dept. of Commerce awarded a grant of $1.28 million for the project, which is expected to create 430 jobs and generate $14 million in private investment for the community, according to a local Channel 7 News report.

“Keeping in mind that wood manufacturing is a very large part of the labor force in Langlade County and [it has] a large supply of raw materials, the idea is to provide high-tech training in the wood manufacturing field,” Mike Berry, NTC Associate Dean of the Technology and Trades Div., is reported as saying.

Planning for the center has been going on for the past two years. It is expected to be open for enrollment in fall 2010.
