New FPS Executive Vice President to Begin in April
MADISON, WI — The Forest Products Society announced that Stefan Bergmann has accepted the position of executive vice president and will begin managing the affairs of the Society on April 20.

Bergmann comes to the Society with seven years of non-profit association experience related to important forestry and forest products issues at the national level, as well as in the northeast and midwest regions. In Washington, DC, he worked on forest policy issues for the National Association of State Foresters. Following that, he served as the first staff for the Northeastern Area Association of State Foresters. He also has work experience in forestry extension and outreach at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Most recently, Bergmann served as executive director of the Great Lakes Forest Alliance, an international organization that facilitates cooperative efforts to enhance management and sustainable use of forest lands in the three Lake States and the Canadian province of Ontario.

FPS says that Bergmann’s background provides him with a uniquely broad perspective on both non-profit management and forest product issues. His M.S. degree in Forest Resources from Oregon State University, combined with his expertise in research, extension and outreach, executive management, forest policy and his demonstrated effectiveness in working with a volunteer Board of Directors, sets the stage for a promising future for the Society.
