MEMPHIS — The National Hardware Lumber Assn. was recently awarded a $25,000 U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service Grant to develop a new delivery method for NHLA Lumber Inspector Training.
Based on a data analysis of industry trends, the NHLA recognizes that currently an adequate supply of hardwood lumber inspectors exists to satisfy industry needs. The current training model requires trainees to attend a 14-week course at the NHLA vocational training school in Memphis, which presents a barrier to prospective applicants. This grant will allow the NHLA to develop a feasible alternative approach to generating a larger pool of qualified hardwood lumber inspectors.
